Low Impact Living & Sustainability
More Than Your Carbon Footprint
The focus of the Low Impact Living and Sustainability interest area was on exploring new ways to reduce our carbon footprints, electricity use, food waste, water use, and the climate change as it relates to life in 2020. The Low Impact Living & Sustainability interest area was supported by the Zer0w reDesign team of Paul Hempe and Chad Campbell. Additionly, their leadership efforts helped to make the Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota's Wired for 2020 Event at the Mall of America focus on a minimal carbon footprint.
There are an infinite number of ways to live more sustainably in your everyday life. AltUse is a website where users can share innovative ways to re-use everything from dryer sheets (to clean stainless steel) to shipping crates (to construct homes) - and new ideas are posted all the time.

Zer0w ReDesign
Trash turned trendy! The owners and designers of this successful small business showed youth what a little imagination and a lot of talent can look like when you recycle things like potato sacks and mesh bags that hold fruit from your grocery store. The company uses material they create called "plaberic" and use it to make trendy, fashionable totes, computer bags, purses and other cool products.
Hands on Twin Cities
The folks at Hands On Twin Cities shared an important message with participants: Each person in the Twin Cities generates almost seven pounds of waste each day. That's enough to fill the Metrodome 11 times every year! Youth took a fun and interactive quiz to test their knowledge about reducing, reusing and recycling. Participants found this to be a valuable learning experience!
